Never losing your number: the engineering behind a channel that holds

When we started building Boomer we had one hard requirement: the channel must never fall over. For a staffing agency WhatsApp is not "a tool", it is the recruiting. One block and your 3,000 workers are unreachable. We wanted that risk off the table completely.

Why private numbers get killed

WhatsApp was built for contact between people, not for an agency messaging hundreds at once. Meta's enforcement systems are explicitly aimed at recognising that pattern, plenty of outbound messages, little conversation back, commercial content, and blocking it. A private number behaving like a company stands out sooner or later. Four phones with four SIM cards does not solve that; it only multiplies the number of numbers that can disappear.

The choice: build on the foundation itself

So Boomer sends through Meta's official WhatsApp Business Platform. No detour, no grey-market tool, the channel that business messaging is meant to run on. That gives you three things a private number fundamentally cannot:

  • A verified sender. Your number is registered with Meta as a business. You are not an anonymous sender standing out, you are a recognised party.
  • Traffic inside the rules, by design. Templates, opt-in and frequency are set up to the platform's policy. You keep to the rules automatically, so the chance of a block is far smaller.
  • Scale as the starting point. The platform is made for volume. Reaching 25,000 workers is not an edge case, it is what it was designed for.

Architecture is designing risks away

You do not recognise good architecture by what happens when everything goes well, but by what does not happen when things go wrong. A private number works fine, right up to the day it does not, and then you have lost everything. Building on the official platform makes that day far less likely. And if something does go wrong, Coexistence keeps you reachable on the same number, so you do not lose your pool. That is the difference.

This is not a feature we added on the side. It is the foundation everything else stands on: the reporting, the campaigns, the AI. Because an AI that fills your shifts is worth little if the channel underneath it can collapse at any moment.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the WhatsApp Business app and the WhatsApp Business Platform?

The app is free, runs on one phone and suits a small business with a few chats a day. The platform (previously called the WhatsApp Business API) runs in the cloud, lets several people work on one number, has no group limit and charges per conversation. Reaching a whole pool belongs to the second, not the first.

Why do personal numbers get blocked?

Because the pattern looks like spam: many messages to people who never saved your number, often with the same text. If enough recipients block or report you, the number goes, and you get no warning you can act on in time.

Why does adding SIM cards not help?

Because it spreads the risk instead of removing it. You maintain four phones, split your pool across four channels with no overview, and still lose a number every quarter. That is postponement, not architecture.

Can a number on the official platform still be lost?

It does not get banned for volume: that usage belongs there and your number is verified. What can drop is your quality rating if many recipients block you. Meta then lowers how many people you may message per day, and you fix that with more relevant messages, not with a new number.

What does the official platform cost per message?

Meta charges per conversation you start, at a rate that depends on the recipient's country. In the Netherlands that is roughly 4 cents for a shift invitation, reminder or service message and roughly 13 cents if the message counts as marketing.
